HOHHOT, China, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The government subsidies for major sports stadiums will benefit national fitness, according to the State General Administration of Sport on Wednesday.

China has been allocating subsidies since 2014 to encourage major sports stadiums to open for free or to lower their entrance fees for the Chinese public. China has allocated 3.5 billion yuan (556.6 million US dollars) in subsidies in the last four years.

The subsidies were allocated by the scale of the stadium. The subsidies in 2018 will be allocated according to the reception as well as the frequency and quality of the sports activities, competitions and training taking place at the stadium.

Sports stadiums with higher attendance, as well as a variety of activities, will receive more funding.
