World record holder Kimetto plots marathon comeback in Boston

NAIROBI, March 6 (Xinhua) -- World marathon record holder Dennis Kimetto of Kenya is hopeful his injuries problems are finally behind him as he plans to redeem his career with a comeback at the Boston marathon in April 16.

Kimetto, 34, was forced to pull out of Chicago and Boston marathons last year citing injuries and poor form, but the Kenyan runner is ready to put his body on the line again pushing it to run faster time.

"I will be back. I have to take it slowly and see how the body reacts. I have not been running and I need to see how it will react to top competition," he said on Tuesday from Eldoret.

The world marathon record-holder (2:02:57) has watched as several packs of top marathoners have tried to shatter his record without success.

Last year, he warned that his record will only go down after proper planning and watched as trio of Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele, Eliud Kipchoge and Wilson Kipsang failed to lower it in Berlin.

But that will not be on his mind in Boston as he seeks to return to competition and dominate the marathon once again.

"There is that feeling of doubt you always have asking yourself if you will ever be able to run at the top level. But it is a mental challenge and I feel very strong now. I am in good shape now because I have had good training for some time without any injuries. I will make a comeback in Boston," added Kimetto.

Two-time Boston champion Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia, 2016 Boston winner Lemi Berhanu of Ethiopia, Kenyans Evans Kiplagat Chebet, Felix Kipchirchir Kandie, Philemon Rono Cherop and Stephen Sambu are expected to run in Boston.
