JAKARTA, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo delivered the bonus awards for national medal earner athletes in 2018 Asian Para Games held here, expressing his satisfaction at the above-target results from the sporting event.

"The targets of 16 gold medals and be among best eight teams that I had set earlier were exceeded. Spending from state budget allocated for the bonus this time is higher than in the Asiad," President Widodo said in Bogor Presidential Palace in his remarks to the medal-winning athletes in the Asian Para Games.

The awards were equal to those allocated for medal winners in the Asiad.

Gold medal-winning single athletes received 1.5 billion rupiah (about 98,600 US dollars), while silver medal earners were awarded 500 million rupiah (about 32,800 US dollars), bronze at 250 million rupiah (about 16,400 US dollars).

Gold medal earners from doubles competitions received 1 billion rupiah (about 65,700 US dollars) each, silver 400 million rupiah (about 26,300 US dollars) each and bronze 200 million rupiah (US dollars).

Team players were given 750 million rupiah (about 49,300 US dollars) for gold medal earners, 300 million rupiah (about 19,700 US dollars) for silver and 150 million rupiah (about 9,800 US dollars) for bronze.

Prior to the closing ceremony slated for Saturday night in Jakarta's landmark stadium of Gelora Bung Karno, Indonesia has earned a total of 135 medals, comprised of 37 gold, 47 silver and 51 bronze medals across both the Asiad and Para Games.

It puts the host country in fifth position after China, South Korea, Iran and Japan in the third Asian Para Games, themed "the Inspiring Spirit and Energy of Asia" this year.

In the previous two Asian Para Games held in China and South Korea in 2010 and 2014, Indonesia was placed in 14th and ninth positions respectively.
