KIGALI, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- More Rwandan refugees returned home from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on Wednesday with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), authorities said.
A total of 382 Rwandans were repatriated through the La Corniche border post in Rubavu District, the Ministry in Charge of Emergency Management said in a statement.
The returnees were transported to the Nyarushishi Transit Center in western Rusizi District, where they will be sheltered while undergoing repatriation procedures. The ministry said all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a safe and dignified return.
"The government has established comprehensive reintegration programs to support the sustainable settlement of returnees, including access to education for children, healthcare coverage, and other services that foster social cohesion with other communities," it said.
It added that through close cooperation, the government and UNHCR are working to facilitate the reintegration process, helping returnees rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
The repatriation is in line with an agreement signed in July between Rwanda, DRC, and the UNHCR, which reaffirmed the parties' commitment to upholding refugees' right to voluntary return.
Data from the ministry released in September showed that more than 4,000 Rwandans had returned from DRC since January this year. ■
