UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Into the third day of Gaza peace talks in Egypt, there is no letup in Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, UN humanitarians said Wednesday.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said the offensive is "making the already dire humanitarian situation even more perilous."
OCHA said its partners report that many people are unable to leave northern Gaza due to insecurity. People are sleeping outdoors and struggling to survive amid severe shortages of food and shelter.
The UN Satellite Centre has published a preliminary analysis on the extent of damage in Gaza City, encompassing 83 percent of structures. It showed that approximately 81,000 housing units were damaged.
The World Health Organization said that since the war began in 2023, nearly 42,000 Palestinians have suffered major, potentially life-changing injuries in Gaza. One in four of the injured are children, and more than 5,000 amputations have been recorded.
As for the West Bank, OCHA said it is deeply concerned by the impact of Israeli military operations, including those in refugee camps in northern areas. Tens of thousands of people remain displaced from their homes in the Tulkarm, Nur Shams and Jenin camps.
In the first nine months of 2025, OCHA documented more than 1,200 attacks by Israeli settlers across the West Bank, which resulted in Palestinian casualties, property damage or both, and damage to more than 17,000 trees and saplings.
The office said olive harvest is a key economic, social and cultural event for Palestinians. However, some farmers in Nablus, Salfit and Qalqiliya were unable to harvest their crops in the past few days due to physical attacks by settlers or because trees were vandalized. ■
