MADRID, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde has suffered a hamstring injury, which could keep him out of action for around a month, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The defender suffered the injury in the club's final training session of the week, with the Barcelona website confirming the injury was in his left leg, adding "his availability will depend on how he progresses."

If Balde is sidelined for around four weeks, he will miss La Liga matches against Valencia, Getafe, Oviedo and Real Sociedad, as well as Barca's Champions League debut against Newcastle United and possibly the next match against Paris Saint-Germain.

Balde suffered another hamstring injury at the end of last season and missed the Champions League semifinal against Inter Milan and the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.

The good news for Barcelona is that the club was able to register Gerard Martin in its first team squad before the transfer window closed on Monday night and Martin is Balde's most likely replacement at left back. ■
