PHNOM PENH, July 27 (Xinhua) -- A three-week election campaign for Sunday's general election in Cambodia came to an end without any violence, a spokesman for the National Election Committee (NEC) said Friday.

NEC member and spokesman Hang Puthea said during the period, contesting political parties had actively promoted their political platforms to voters through playing recorded speeches on loudspeakers and distributing leaflets.

"In general, I can say that the 21-day election campaign had been conducted smoothly with good atmosphere, as political parties have mutual understanding," he said in a press conference here.

The spokesman said about 2 million people had campaigned for their political parties during the period, using more than 60,000 cars and 380,000 motorcycles.

Puthea said during the campaign, the NEC had received 30 complaints filed by political parties against each other, and 20 of them had already been solved out.

The Southeast Asian country is scheduled to hold the general election for the 125-seat parliament on July 29.

Twenty political parties will contest in the election, which will see some 8.38 million people cast their ballots.

Among the parties are the ruling Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Funcinpec Party of Prince Norodom Ranariddh, the League for Democracy Party of former opposition lawmaker Khem Veasna, the Grassroots Democracy Party of agronomist Yang Saing Koma, and the Khmer Will Party of former opposition member Kong Monika.

Puthea said a total of 22,967 polling stations will be opened at 7:00 a.m. local time and closed at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
